  • CIA Factbook - annual series, the latest one is on-line and provides all the basic information.
  • Country Studies - part of the Library of Congress series. A good resource for statistics.
  • In Your Pocket - publishes a series of extremely useful guide books covering some of the less well-trodden areas of the region (I dare someone to find another comprehensive guide on Kaliningrad). These can be viewed in full, as well as ordered, online.
  • Orientation Central and Eastern Europe - regional search engine
  • Public Relations Center - collects and distributes information about issues of freedom of conscience in the countries of the former Soviet Union
  • REESWeb - extensive links list from the University of Pittsburgh, USA
  • Regional links - lists of links from the School of Slavonic and East European Studies in London
  • Sam Vaknin's List - an announcement list through which subscribers receive daily articles and essays on Central, Eastern and South-eastern Europe from hundreds of carefully selected sources. A companion to Sam Vaknin's new book After the Rain - How the West Lost the East.
  • Search Europe - European search engine for East and West
  • The Slavic Research Center - from Hokkaido University in Japan, extensive English-language information about all Central European countries, including the Balkans and Baltics. Great first stop.
