CER Wins
NetMedia Award

On 7 July, Central Europe Review was awarded the NetMedia 2000 Award for Outstanding Contribution to Online Journalism in Europe.

The awards are part of the annual NetMedia conference, Europe's premier Internet conference for journalists and media professionals. It covers both print and electronic media.

After only one year in publication, we feel greatly honoured by this recognition from our colleagues in journalism across Europe. Thank you for your nominations and votes.

It really has been an outstanding year here at CER. Starting penniless but with a pocketful of good will, the team at CER has invested an enormous amount of sweat and a large number of

sleepless nights to establish this journal over the past year.

Our all-volunteer staff have given up their weekends, their holidays and, on some occasions, their sanity to keep CER growing and developing at a dizzying pace.

The growth of CER has been truly astounding. In just one year, our news coverage alone has spread from four or five countries to 19. From spending 60% of our time convincing people to write for an upstart magazine, we now have scores more submissions every week than we can possibly publish.

Our staff has grown from 15 regular contributors, correspondents and editors to over 60. And, of course, there are our readers, all 10,000 of them every week now.

The NetMedia 2000 Award for Outstanding Contribution to Online Journalism in Europe comes as a very welcome birthday present for us, and we'd like to thank our readers and colleagues for putting us in such good company, as the full list of NetMedia winners makes clear...
